Reliability is a top priority in air traffic control – any interruption could have serious consequences. The industrial PCs used in the air traffic controllers’ consoles must therefore ensure reliable 24/7 operability. In addition, the design of the workstations requires that all connections and control elements are arranged on one side to allow for ease of use.
Apart from these technical requirements, the large number of 800 systems with short delivery times posed a logistical challenge. A particular challenge was ensuring revision consistency at the component level across the entire series – a key requirement for the purchasing and quality departments to ensure smooth integration and long-term maintenance.
For this demanding application, a 19-inch, 2U industrial PC was developed that is specially adapted to the requirements of air traffic control. The mechanical design of the housing has been modified so that all connections and controls are on one side for easy installation and operation in air traffic controllers’ consoles.
