Challenges

The customer, a leading expert in the application of innovative laser technologies for the processing of rigid and flexible printed circuit boards (PCBs), uses state-of-the-art processes to ensure precise and efficient manufacturing processes. The core tasks include the residue-free and high-precision depanelling of PCBs, which enables maximum material savings and a low reject rate thanks to a dense component arrangement and placement. Laser drilling of microstructures as small as 2µm in diameter also places high demands on precision and process control. Ultra-short pulse lasers (USP) are used here, which process micro-materials without melting and without reworking. Other laser applications include creating predetermined breaking points, milling cavities for microchip placement and laser trimming, such as cutting photovoltaic panels to size.

A key challenge is to develop a technical solution that ensures reliable 24/7 operation of the machines. At the same time, it is necessary to integrate a motherboard with seven PCIe slots into the Industrial PC that will be available for at least five years.

Solution

The customised 19 inch 4U Mayflower®-II industrial PC is used to meet the customer’s requirements. This powerful computer is designed for 24/7 continuous operation and offers the robustness and flexibility for demanding laser applications such as depanelling, drilling, scribing and trimming.

The Mayflower®-II is equipped with extensive storage and RAID functions that guarantee a high level of data security. In addition, the industrial computer has three network cards for optimum integration into industrial networks and high bandwidth data exchange between different production units. Nine additional interfaces are available via the network cards, allowing the flexible connection of numerous peripheral devices and expansion modules. This is particularly useful when adapting to different production requirements.

With this customised configuration, the customer can carry out its highly specialised laser processes efficiently and trouble-free, while the system’s long-term availability of at least five years ensures a long-term solution.

Customer benefits

The customer sees the greatest benefit in working in partnership with a reliable supplier who stands by them even in difficult times. Especially in times of global supply bottlenecks and material shortages, InoNet Computer proves to be a reliable partner that ensures a continuous supply of materials. This is crucial for the customer in order to ensure smooth 24/7 operation of the highly specialised laser machines.

Our proven supply chain and experience in sourcing critical components is also critical to our customers, allowing them to continue production without interruption. This strengthens not only operational continuity, but also customer confidence in our ability to meet complex requirements over the long term.

Our commitment to a stable supply of materials and the flexibility to adapt to changing market conditions gives customers the planning and supply security they need to operate and develop their high-precision laser applications successfully. This means that future production targets can be achieved without delay.
