A car manufacturer needed a powerful measuring computer for a wide range of test applications in vehicle development under real conditions – including chassis and brake light tests as well as simple tests in the ADAS area. The system had to be installed directly in the trunk of the vehicle and reliably record data during test drives in a variety of environments – from urban roads to mountainous regions.
A key requirement was the flexible configurability of the system. The customer wanted to be able to change different test setups quickly by simply swapping the SSDs – without the use of tools. Two separate SSDs had to be integrated: one for the operating system and the applications, the other for the recorded measurement data.
In addition, the measuring system had to offer high computing power and be compatible with various bus systems such as FlexRay, LIN or CAN/FD, as well as being quiet and compact. Furthermore, a rugged design was required to withstand the shocks and vibrations during operation.
A customized high-performance measuring computer was developed to meet the customer’s requirements. A key feature of the system are two SSDs integrated into removable frames. This allows the SSDs to be removed and replaced without tools, enabling test set-ups to be adapted quickly.
The required computing power is provided by a 14th generation Intel® Core™ i9 processor. The fanless design makes the system not only low maintenance, but also highly resistant to shocks and vibrations in the vehicle. To maximize the flexibility of the measuring system, various bus systems such as FlexRay or CAN/FD can be connected via add-on cards. This ensures that the system can be used universally for different test requirements.
Intuitive shuttle handling and modular expandability allow the same system to be used for measurements in different test scenarios, reducing downtime and resulting in significant time savings and increased efficiency in the test phase.
